Introduction to Tutorials top
Digital storytelling involves different multimedia technologies such as images, video, and sound. In your assignment for this module you will be using MovieMaker (PC) or iMovie (Mac) to create a digital story about learning. Producing a project like this takes a lot of planning.

To help us plan this project, we will use celtx, an online (free) storyboarding tool. What makes this technology so helpful is that you can load the images into a storyboard, add text to the images to plan a scene, and then you can print your storyboard. You may be able to complete this assignment without Celtx (e.g., using paper and pencil) but, as you will see, Celtx’s ability to order and annotate your images will make everything much easier!

Once you have created your storyboard (you can even write a script in celtx), you will produce your slideshow video in iMovie (Mac) or MovieMaker (PC). Both of those video programs allow you to import pictures, add transitions, add titles slides, and add sound to produce your story. The assignment below will help you learn how to use these functions.

Storyboard Tutorial Assignment:

To begin, read the overview of Celtx, then download the application to your computer. The site offers a variety of different tutorials, but for this assignment focus on the Splash and Storyboard tutorials.

Video Tutorial Assignment:

Making Your Digital Slideshow

Having completed the above tutorials, you are now ready to produce your digital slideshow. So, using the images gathered earlier and your plan on the Certx storyboard, produce your slideshow! Remember that your show must use multimedia in engaging and thoughtful ways. Specifically, your project should:

  1. Depict a learning theory through a specific learning situation.
  2. Include images and sound.
  3. Use a title slide and a credit slide. All references for images and/or sound should be cited on the credit slide.
  4. Be well produced (e.g., if music is added it is added for effect, tone, or mood and doesn’t distract the listener).

After completing your project, please post it on your CEP 800 blog.
